Shots from the garden - willows, junipers, acer

So the salix cuttings (see this thread: http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/weeping-willow-beginnings-salix-xxxxx.html ) made it through the winter and are in fine stead, chucking out foliage all over like the barber from the 70's play-dough set (remember that?!)

Although this lacks taper, you can't see the 8 or so inches buried beneath the soil...There be taper down tharrr. GARRR!  Ground planted in good soil/compost/and shedloads of grit -  I'm not into naming trees but this one could potentially be nicknamed 'asbo' due to the fact that this is one of two that had hoodies on for the winter.

This is planted in a large pond basket - 25cm x 25cm x 25cm in a mix of 50% molar clay, 30% peaty stuff, 20% grit

Interestingly, this one is planted in 50% peaty stuff, 30% Molar clay and 20% grit. Might just be coincidence but the wetter mix seems to be less suitable, contrary to what I've been told. Saying that,  comparing only 2 is hardly the basis for scientific conclusion. It has roughly 1/3rd of the foliage of the other one

This is the biggest cutting at around 3.5' tall, ground planted in good soil/compost/and shedloads of grit

Here's my little Acer Katsura with apical problems..... going to take a small miracle to save that apex with only 4 buds, of which only 1 extended so far....

One of my Itoigawas, with lovely new growing tips all over, all cleaned and de-mossed in winter

Remember this one?  http://dj-bonsai.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/another-itoigawa-imported-material.html

Well here's what he looks like now.... some way to go, but at least headed in the right direction.

Coming soon - repot of a BIG zelkova mother/daughter...

Thanks for tuning in, til next time....
